About The Show…

It’s time for a good time with a great musical show!  we are easing the restrictions a bit on the listening room atmosphere and celebrating a couple of events worth celebrating!  There will be hotdogs and hamburgers and cake and ice cream and some beverages as well that we will be supplying!  We hope to have a great crowd for this event!  And remember, we have a pool – bring your suits!

Now to the important part – the SHOW!

Charlie Imes!

When singer-songwriter Charlie Imes penned the rhyme “I’m leaving behind a trail of sand, bringing my beach all across this land,” he didn’t just have the basis for the title track of his forthcoming album. He summed up his approach to life.

Imes comes by his coastal vibe honestly. He honed his craft on the beaches of California from an early age, entertaining friends around the fire pit with his guitar, songs and stories. But dreams of a music career got sidetracked by office work, the launch of a legal services firm and a brief stint in San Diego politics.

It was surviving stage 3 colon cancer and a serious bout of diverticulitis a little more than 10 years ago that brought Imes back to music. He was in the midst of a painstaking recovery when his doctor advised him to eliminate stress from his life. So he ditched the suit and tie, strapped on his guitar and has never looked back.

His performance style has stayed true to those early times. Whether imparting his laid back, jazzy folk rock sound or directly addressing his audience, Imes is a above all storyteller. The songs he chooses, whether his own or borrowed from other musicians, speak to his life experiences, nuggets of which he shares with his audience.

We are a listening venue and request that guests take their conversations into the chat zones (inside the house, or back past the pool with lowered voices…) where you can continue to listen away from those who wish to concentrate on the music. You are welcome to socialize with your friends! We set up chat areas so that everyone will have the experience they want to have while listening to music!

The Habitat is the private home of Ken and Heather Settlemyer who are passionate about the importance of nurturing both local plant and animal wildlife and independent musicians.

Habitat-PhotoLive Music & A Wildlife Sanctuary… The concept of the House Concert is to provide a venue where musicians can come to be heard by those whose primary intention is to listen rather than to have music in the background.

We host musicians to perform at The Habitat approximately one to two times per month, either on our outdoor stage, or on the indoor stage in the event of inclement weather or upon musician request.

We are also proud to maintain over 1/4 acre of wilderness within an urban environment, providing much needed habitat for a variety of native species.  We plant only native species and manage or eliminate the non native species in that area.  We are delighted to play host, not just to excellent musicians, but to a plethora of beautiful butterflies.

The Habitat concerts are a private event, contact us for an invite, and when you come, BYOE and a donation for the musicians.  This is completely not for profit, all donations go in entirety to the artists, some of whom will have traveled from out of state!  Food to share is always welcomed, but not required.

We respect our neighbors and all noise ordinances and time the concerts in consideration of both.  We sincerely hope you join us when you are able.

You are also welcome to stop by and ask Ken for a tour, he will be proud to show you our work in progress as we make a miniature wildlife preserve in the middle of Bradenton, a haven for bees, birds, bats and butterflies!
