Grace Morrison – a Listening Room Network Show

By |
Sunday March 3, 2024 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM

A Sunday Show – Grace Morrison

at The Habitat

Note – This is a SUNDAY show – Gates 3PM Show 4PM!

About Grace

Grace Morrison has never allowed others to define her. Over the course of her prolific career, she’s released three exceedingly well received albums — I’m the Apple (2017), Reasons (2019) and Daughter (2021), each of which testify to her artistry and her acumen.

She’s many things — a singer, songwriter, a mom, Renaissance Faire performer, and yes, even a cranberry grower. Yet she pursues each activity with an uplifting attitude and authentic enthusiasm. It leaves an impact on her audiences, creating an emotional bond that’s both enduring and engaging. It’s the mark of an exceptional artist that finds her listeners leaving her shows feeling like they’ve found a new friend, met a kindred spirit and connected with someone who has engaged them with touching tunes, gentle humor and remarkable stories that resonate and reflect true life experiences.

In that regard, Grace has patented a sound she calls “Saltwater Country.” She describes it as the idea that we need the ocean — and all sources of water for that matter — to provide a place that offers cleansing — not only physically, but spiritually as well. She expresses those sentiments in her songs and in her live performances, through the spoken interludes she shares between songs.

So too, her themes incorporate a variety of subjects all shared from a personal perspective — be it life as a new mom, accepting one’s body image, dealing with alcoholism, substance abuse and eating disorders, life in a small town and even by referencing historical scenarios as well.

Grace’s career has been built on one accomplishment after another. “My first concert was the Tori Amos/Alanis Morrisette 5 ½ weeks tour,” she recalls. “I remember sitting there thinking, ‘Someday I’m going to be onstage with those people.” My favorite thing about this record is that my last producer was on that stage. He’s Tori’s bass player. Full circle!”

She made her initial impact singing back-up vocals for such notables as Eddie Money and Joey Molland of Badfinger before venturing out on her own. “Covid year 2020 was a gift to me in that regard,” she reflects. “Time stopped. I reassessed. Is music-making a career that I really want to pursue? Would I rather go teach in a public school and have some kind of retirement plan?”

Ultimately, she realized on reflection that writing, recording and performing has put her on the path she was meant to pursue. With her new album, Maybe Modern, that realization comes to full fruition.

Steel City Rovers

A Wednesday Show – the Steel City Rovers

at The Habitat

Wednesday March 6th, 2024 – Show 6:30PM (Gates 5:30PM)

Note – This is a WEDNESDAY show!!!

About this Show…

This is a very recently scheduled Pop Up show to help them fill their schedule – It will be an intimate, possibly acoustic, but definitely enjoyable show on a Wednesday Evening – and if you come out for this show, remember that it is a unique opportunity to hear more about them, and the stories behind their music, and really get to know them.

The Steel City Rovers perform dynamic and expressive music that is a unique composite of traditional Celtic music and North American styles including bluegrass, folk and roots. Their original works touch on issues of love, loss, celebration and heritage and they also breathe life into newly-discovered instrumental melodies from as far back as centuries ago.

Their sophisticated arrangements are inviting for the most casual listener but are rewarding for those who are well versed in the nuances of musical complexity. The Rovers stand out for their powerful, emotive vocals and engaging entertainment. They perform on meticulously crafted replicas of historical instruments that rarely appear on today’s musical landscape.

This highly active touring band headlines large festival stages, gives intimate concert performances, educates in a variety of workshop and master-class settings and performs internationally with symphonies. They create, collaborate and work hard to further the love and awareness of music.

Keith Sykes at The Habitat

By |
Saturday May 4, 2024 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM

If you don’t know who Keith Sykes is, Please read on – If you are a true fan of Jimmy Buffett’s music and message, as well of quite a few other great artists and performers, you wont want to miss this show – We are very honored that Keith has chosen to schedule a show at The Habitat!

Once upon a time in the summer of 1967, Keith Sykes hitchhiked to the Newport Folk Festival.

He saw Arlo Guthrie perform “Alice’s Restaurant.” In the fall of that year he got a copy of the album, learned the whole song and sang it at a Holiday Inn in Charleston, South Carolina. They hired him on the spot for a regular gig playing music in the hotel.

It’s pretty perfect that such a rambling tale should be at the start of Keith’s own rambling tale – in the more than 40 years that followed, he would become a troubadour and storyteller, a massively successful songwriter with more than 100 songs recorded by artists as diverse as Rosanne Cash and George Thorogood. He would tour every corner of America and play in just about every conceivable kind of venue, appear on Saturday Night Live and Austin City Limits, and host songwriter nights on Memphis’ legendary Beale Street with many of music’s most talented songwriters. He would join Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, tour the country and record the Volcano album – the title track for which he co-wrote with Jimmy.

To date, recordings of Keith’s songs have sold more than 25 million copies worldwide. With 13 full-length albums released – and great success with his own publishing company, credited with signing John Kilzer to Geffen Records and the discovery of Todd Snider – Keith Sykes has proven to be nothing short of prolific.

Mick Fury at The Habitat

Sunday May 5, 2024 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM

SUNDAY SHOW!!! Doors at 3:00, Show at 4:00

Mick Fury at The Habitat – RSVPs now Active!

About The Show and Mick Fury…

This is a SUNDAY show – so there is an earlier start time – We look forward to seeing you there!

About Mick…

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Mick Fury is a child of the 90s who was tired of the blame game from previous generations—Fury watched as his fellow Millennials were dragged by the media, talk show hosts and newspaper articles—and that’s where the idea for his new album started. 1981-1996 is an anthemic 10-song collection that examines what it is to be part of a generation blamed for problems they didn’t create, that also acts as a Millennial rallying cry to create a better reality.

“All I ever hear is how we’re lazy, we get participation trophies, and we can’t afford houses because we eat too much avocado toast,” he says. “That’s bullshit. We’re the most open-minded, hard-working-for-beans, thoughtful generation yet, and we’ve watched the American Dream be snatched away from us like bullies taking a kid’s lunch money.“

One part Springsteen, one part Sturgill Simpson, a dash of Nirvana and a 90’s zest, it’s a musical cocktail you’re doomed to enjoy.

Charlie Imes 2024 at The Habitat

By |
Saturday May 25, 2024 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM

Charlie returns again to The Habitat for a wonderful evening of music

SATURDAY SHOW – Doors at 5:30, Show at 6:30

About The Show and Charlie…

When singer-songwriter Charlie Imes penned the rhyme “I’m leaving behind a trail of sand, bringing my beach all across this land,” he didn’t just have the basis for the title track of his forthcoming album. He summed up his approach to life.

Imes comes by his coastal vibe honestly. He honed his craft on the beaches of California from an early age, entertaining friends around the fire pit with his guitar, songs and stories. But dreams of a music career got sidetracked by office work, the launch of a legal services firm and a brief stint in San Diego politics.

It was surviving stage 3 colon cancer and a serious bout of diverticulitis a little more than 10 years ago that brought Imes back to music. He was in the midst of a painstaking recovery when his doctor advised him to eliminate stress from his life. So he ditched the suit and tie, strapped on his guitar and has never looked back.

His performance style has stayed true to those early times. Whether imparting his laid back, jazzy folk rock sound or directly addressing his audience, Imes is a above all storyteller. The songs he chooses, whether his own or borrowed from other musicians, speak to his life experiences, nuggets of which he shares with his audience.

“Whatever song I sing, it has to touch my soul,” Imes explains. “Whether it’s a song I wrote or someone else, it has to resonate with me and speak to my heart. It tells a story I want to tell – and one that I think people want to hear.”
